If there was ever a sporting event or a concert you wanted to attend, but for which you waited too long to purchase tickets, you may have been disappointed to realize you would be stuck spending more than face value. Websites such as Stub Hub make it easy to still find tickets to such events, but it seems like it is no longer possible to get a good deal. Or, at least, it can seem this way if you have never learned how to find a good deal on Stub Hub.

If you are not familiar with Stub Hub, it is a website that allows people to resell their tickets to others who are wanting to attend the same event. There are certainly some ticket sellers on Stub Hub who are unloading their tickets because they honestly cannot attend the event, but most ticket sellers are simply trying to make a profit. Because Stub Hub was such a profitable area for so long, there is now often a surplus of available tickets for most important events. And if you understand how Stub Hub works, this means that you can often get an even better deal on tickets that you could have gotten the regular way!

It used to be that Stub Hub let their sellers sell tickets at auction if they wanted, which meant the price of the ticket would keep going up until the final “sell date.” Things have changed at Stub Hub, however, and they no longer accommodate auction sales; instead, sellers can choose to sell at a set price or at a “descending price.” For instance, the last day to sell tickets for an event might be April 30; the seller might have paid $100 per ticket, and might list them at a starting price of $200 per ticket. With a descending price, the ticket price will keep dropping down from $200 as more time passes! So while they might have started the tickets at $200 apiece on, say, March 30, the tickets might be selling for $150 apiece by April 15 if they have not yet been sold. And perhaps you could buy the tickets at the original face value of $100 apiece on April 22; and perhaps, the tickets will still be unsold on April 26 or 27, at below face value!

Your best bet for buying tickets to any concert or sporting event is to buy them from the official ticket retailer early on; but if you happen to wait too long, know that you can still get a good deal on Stub Hub as long as you know how to shop!
